What is a DKIM Record?
DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is a method for validating the authenticity of email messages. When each email is sent, it is signed using a private key and then validated on the receiving mail server (or ISP) using a public key that is in DNS. This process verifies that the message was not altered during transit.
Here’s an example of what a DKIM record might look like:

DKIM records are not required, but they are highly recommended. Without a DKIM record, your domain is more vulnerable to email spoofing and phishing attempts.
How Does DKIM Work?
When an email is sent, the sending server signs the email with a private key. The receiving server then checks the DKIM record for the domain in the ‘From’ address and uses the public key in the DKIM record to verify the signature.
How Do I Create a DKIM Record?
DKIM records are created using a TXT record. The TXT record should be added to the domain’s DNS records. The TXT record should be named selector._domainkey.yourdomain.com and the value should be the DKIM record.
What’s the Difference Between DKIM and SPF?
While both DKIM and SPF are used to prevent email spoofing, they work in different ways. SPF is a DNS record that specifies which mail servers are allowed to send email from your domain. DKIM, on the other hand, adds a digital signature to outgoing emails. The receiving server can then verify the signature to ensure the email was sent from an authorized server. While both DKIM and DMARC are used to prevent email spoofing, they work in different ways.
